To meget gode band kommer til Slottsfjell i sommer.

Slottsfjell-festivalen arrangeres 18. til 20. juli ved Tønsberg, og kan allerede skilte med mye god rock i form av Converge, Black Debbath, Kvelertak og Overthrow. I dag ble programmet ende bedre for alle som liker tunge gitarer. Slottsfjell har nemlig kakket oss hyggelig i siden, og hvisket inn i øret vårt at både Hatebreed og Bad Religion tar turen i sommer.

Hatebreed trenger vel ingen stor presentasjon her på Pyro. Gjennom mange år har Hatebreed levert den ypperste og sinteste blandingen av hardcore og metal man kan oppdrive. Amerikanerne skuffet heller ikke med albumet The Divinity Of Purpose som kom tidligere i år, og live leverer Hatebreed på alle høyeste nivå hver eneste gang de inntar scenen. Magi garanteres.

Punkveteranene i Bad Religion mangler nok sin ungdoms galskap og stamina på sine eldre dager, men det tar de igjen med kloke tekster og en aura av legende. Fremdeles handler Bad Religion om kjappe punklåter på et par minutter, og tekstene blir bare bedre og bedre ettersom årene går. True North kom nylig, og Bad Religion er et band en bør få med seg før det er for sent. Pop-punkens gudfedre.

Ros til Slottsfjell og nikk til Hatebreed for å ha laget en av årets så langt beste låter i Put It To The Torch som kan nytes under.

Så vi sendte noen spørsmål til bassist Stuart Gili-Ross om livet i Gallows med ny vokkis.

Gallows is booked for Slottsfjell this summer, a gig you cancelled due to illness last summer. What can the Norwegian audience expect from you this summer?
– We’re really looking forward to it. We were really bummed out when we couldn’t make it over last summer. We’ve always had such a rad time in Norway, Bergen was one of my favourite shows in recent years and Norwegian kids know how to party. Come and see Gallows at Slottsfjell to hear jams from all our records, we won’t just be playing new stuff from Death is Birth, there will be plenty of bangers from Orchestra of Wolves and Grey Britain too!

How’s life in Gallows with a new singer, what’re the biggest differences?
– It’s awesome! Wade is great. The 2 shows we played in London with him before Christmas 2011 were 2 of the tightest, craziest, best and most energetic Gallows shows of all time and I don’t say that lightly. I guess the main differences are that Wade actually manages to sing the songs and not miss parts out alot and obviously he is Canadian. He has a very sharp and dry sense of humour so there’s some more onstage banter that we haven’t had before. Wade goes hard and the rest of us really feed off that new energy. We are like a new band in every sense and it feels good.

We really love the Death Is Birth EP, how much does it point toward the next album musically?
– Honestly, it doesn’t point towards it much at all! Death is Birth was literally the first 5 songs that came together really quickly once Wade joined the band. We just wanted to get something out with Wade’s voice on so we could go and tour some new songs. I am proud of that EP, but it was just a short violent burst of noise. The next album will be approached as the 3rd Gallows album should be. Musically its going to be as exciting as Orchestra of Wolves with the kind of considered sounds and structures we tried to create on Grey Britain. This is going to be our masterpiece.

People always talk about old vocalist vs new vocalist. How is Wade fitting into the band?
– From Day 1, Wade has just come in and taken care of business. He loves playing music and he is really into Punk Rock. It’s nice to have someone in the band I can talk about old obscure hardcore bands with. Im not really into the idea of comparing the 2. We asked Wade to join Gallows because we didn’t want someone who was just like Frank. He’s fitting in great, when we play shows it’s hard to believe he hasn’t always been in this band from day 1.

You moved to California, will the follow up to Grey Britain be called Amazing America?
– Haha! I am not official yet, I spend alot of time in California with my wife but no green card yet. Our drummer Lee lives in California and has a greencard and a wife there too. What can I say, I think the good people of Norway can relate to me when I say I just get sick of the cold, grey weather. I’m a palm trees and beaches kind of guy and I’ve had enough of concrete city skylines. We don’t actually have a title for the new record yet though, right now we have about 10 tracks that are classic Gallows. Think early Black Flag having a 3-way with Hot Snakes and Melvins.

Anthrax spiller i morgen på Slottsfjell-festivalen i Tønsberg, og det gjør de uten Scott Ian som er hjemme med kone og nyfødt barn. Andreas Kisser fra Sepultura stepper inn. Kan bli sterke saker. Og jammen dukket ikke albumcoveret til den kommende platen Worship Music i dag også. En plate som nesten matcher Chinese Democracy når det kommer til tullball med produksjonen.

For albumet ble først spilt inn med forrige vokalist Dan Nelson, så reiste Scott Ian verden rundt og promoterte albumet, men like før det skulle ut ble Nelson sparket fra bandet. Gamle-vokalisten Joey Belladonna ble så draftet inn igjen, og siden har Anthrax turnert med ham, blant annet som en del av de store Big 4-konsertene. Og nå, endelig, er Worship Music klar for utgivelse. Med vokal av Belladonna. Utgivelse er planlagt i september, og første låt Fight ‘Em ‘Till You Can’t er allerede ute.
